Yet Another Snow Day!

Yesterday we had an EPIC snow day!

We got just a tad over 5 inches of snow here at the house:
(highly scientific measurement of cramming a free ruler they give elementary school kids down into the snow)

After the previous day's sledding adventure, we came to the conclusion that Lilly's boots sucked because they apparently leaked a little, and they were too thin to keep your feet very warm in the snow (they were fine for a normal day at school; not so much for snow sledding in freezing weather for hours on end).  So we did what any other similar-sized mother/daughter combo would do.  Traded.  Lilly wore my good boots, while I suffered with her crappy ones.

I prepared first, though, by putting plastic grocery store bags on over my socks, before putting Lilly's crappy boots on.  And it worked!:
Anti-leak devices installed!

Then we sledded.  I didn't have any more crashes, though (thank goodness)!  I handed my camera over to Jamie for him to be our video/photographer:

And here are the pictures he took:

The snow was really fun, but I'm still ready for Spring.  Hopefully this will be the last 'hurrah' of Winter for us!

Sledding Adventures!

Check out all the fun me and Lilly had in the snow yesterday!:
It's supposed to snow even more today & tomorrow, so I wouldn't be surprised if school was closed the rest of this week, like it was last week!

Crazy Things I Saw Yesterday

You know how yesterday I got to go to work.  Even though school was closed for the students, all school staff had to come in to work anyway.  Which was GREAT by me, since it got me out of the house, which I was sick of being cooped up in!  We just took the day to do some cleaning.  One of my particular chores was to clean all the windowsills in the cafeteria, sweep out all the corners and edges along the walls, and scrub any food splotches off the walls.  So I grabbed a ladder, some cleaning stuff and a rag, and away I went.

I was about a third of the way around scrubbing the windowsills, when something caught my eye on the floor of the little foyer just inside an outside entrance.

It was a big black stapler:

Here's a closer view:

I wondered how in the world anybody could drop one of those huge staplers and not even realize it.  It would be all *CLUNK BA-DUNK*, and the burden in your arms would lift by like, 5 pounds.  I then came to the conclusion that whoever's stapler it was, they must have ditched it on purpose.  My theory is that when we had school (briefly) on Wednesday, and it started snowing, so they called off school at 8:30, a teacher must have just scooped up a load of random stuff off her desk (including a vitally important bag of M&Ms), and simply fled immediately out the nearest door.  Then, realizing that she wouldn't actually need the 5-pound stapler at home, turned around, re-opened the door of the school, and flung the stapler back inside.

That's my theory anyway.

We were allowed to leave work at 2:00 yesterday, so I went and picked up Lilly from Papaw & Patti's, and we drove back home.  We were just a couple miles from the house, when we couldn't believe our eyes.  Even though it was literally freezing outside, and a dusting of snow was on the ground, coming toward us in the other lane was a BICYCLIST.  Wearing his bike helmet and skin-tight spandex bicyclist's bodysuit thing.  Me and Lilly couldn't believe it.  Who in the hell in their right mind would be out riding their freakin' bicycle in weather like this?  So I can't decide if the bicycle dude was 1) dedicated, or 2) a moron.  So I've come to the conclusion that he's both.  A dedicated moron.

Yesterday evening, we let the dogs out of the house so they could go crap and pee and do dog things outside for a while.  It was dark outside, but Jamie had turned on the garage light and the floodlights.  A little while later, Jamie happened to look out the window because Maddie's strange behavior caught his eye.  Then he said "Maddie's got a possum"!  Immediately, I threw down the book I was reading, busted out from under my blanket, grabbed my phone so I could take a video of it, and, well, here ya go.  I was in such a hurry because I didn't want to miss any action, that I didn't realize that my stupid phone wouldn't be able to video good at all in the dark (and I completely forgot until just now that I probably could have switched it to Night View, duh), and I didn't even think grab a flashlight.  But anyway, here's what I was able to get:
This is the second time that Maddie has gotten a possum.  She never hurts them at all; she just likes to gently pick them up in her gaping maw, and carry them up to the house for us to see.  It's really hilarious.  I think she secretly wanted to bring it in the house.  But even we wouldn't stand for that!  :/

Speaking of possums, I had a 'pet' possum one time when I was probably a young teenager.  It was a baby one about the size of your hand that we had found somewhere.  I don't even know if it was male or female, but we named it George Jones (LOL) and I kept it in an old hamster cage for a few days.  It smelled bad, and it liked to crawl behind my back when I was sitting on the couch and stay in the space between the small of my back and the couch cushion.  I don't remember what we tried to feed it (probably carrots and lettuce), but we were eventually horrified to discover that it was actually eating its own poo!  >:P  Finally we realized that we just had to let it go, so we carried it in the hamster cage down to the shed, and just left the door of the cage open so it could escape.  The next time I went to check on it, it was gone.

Anyway, it actually snowed some more last night, so we have about an inch of snow on the ground now.  Jamie and Lilly are outside attempting to sled (surprisingly, Jamie actually agreed to go outside with Lilly and play; he usually refuses).  Me, I don't typically like to go out in the cold and snow, but if there's enough snow to be deep enough to sled on properly, then it's harder for me to resist.  Speaking of me sledding, here's a video of me sledding at Snow World when we went down to spend the night with our Aunt Brenda back in December:
It was one of the funnest things I've ever done!  :)

Today is also the first day our mean cat, Sassybat, got to experience her first snow.  She's about 1 year old now, we figure.  Needless to say, like a typical cat, she was not amused at the cold, wet snow, and came rushing back in the house almost immediately, shaking each one of her paws individually and washing them to get rid of the dampness.  Hee hee!

Even the cat wants Spring to hurry up and get here already!  :)

No School Tomorrow, But I Get To Work!

Well, they cancelled school again tomorrow because of the snow & ice, even though the main roads and much of the secondary roads are completely clear.  But all the school staff still has to come in to work, which is fine by me!  Finally, an escape from this house!  We don't have to be there until maybe 9:00 AM (opposed to our normal time of 6:30 AM) so that's good.  So on my way in, I'll ditch Lilly out at Papaw & Patti's house, and be on my merry way to work.  We'll just be using the day to get some cleaning done.  It'll be good because we're due to have the health inspector come at any time, so it will be worthwhile.  Not that the kitchen is dirty, but you know how it is.  I mean they check for obvious stuff like mice and roaches, but they also are so crazy as to pull out your spoon drawers to make sure that all your serving spoons are lined up and stacked perfectly by size and type.  Seriously.

Anyway, I'll be glad to work tomorrow so I can get out of the house and have something to do.  Then the weekend will hit, and I'll be bored again.  And what's even worse is that we're supposed to get even more stupid Winter Weather this weekend.

I hope it all goes away Sunday, so we can get back to normal next week!  :{

No School Today

Well, it snowed some more yesterday evening, and we learned that school would be on a 2-hour delay the next morning.  A while after that, it snowed some more, and the automated phone call from the school came through saying that school would be closed instead.  I was glad that at least this time they had the decency to let us know the night before, instead of waiting til the next morning.

Right now, it's only 3 degrees.  There's maybe about an inch of snow (or a little less) outside.  I wonder if there will be school tomorrow?  Probably not.

All I know is that I am ABSOLUTELY SICK of being cooped up in the house.  It actually gives me a headache, and even makes my body hurt.  I'm bored to death. Sometimes I go out on the porch to just stand there for a minute and breathe some fresh air, before I get too cold & have to go back in the house.  It's miserable!  I don't know what to do!  :(

I Am SO MAD!

I waited all evening last night, expecting the automated school recording to call and let us know that school would be closed today due to the expected bad weather.  But the call never came.  I reluctantly set my alarm to get up in the morning, figuring that surely we would get the automated school recording by 6:00 in the morning.  My alarm went off this morning, and I slowly started getting ready, waiting for the call to come in, but the call never came.  Angrily, I drove on in to work.  The schools in the surrounding counties were closed, but we were open.

Finally, at about 8:30 AM, it started snowing, and soon after, they announced that they were closing school.

I was FURIOUS.  It was totally useless for us to have had to go in to school today.  They should have called school off this morning at the latest, before everyone got ready.  We were under a Winter Storm Warning, and Snow Snow Snow was in the forecast.

Now I see that the forecast says that it's not supposed to snow much at all, and the Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled.

I'm so mad!!!  >:{

DON'T LITTER, KIDDSSS...... MUAAHHHAAHHAAHHAAHHAAA!!!

I was eating a sammitch and some tater chips for lunch a while ago, and I happened to notice this picture on the back of the tater chip bag.  It's a good thing I was just getting done eating, cuz this sight caused me to lose my appetite immediately:
MUAAHHHAAHHAAHHAAHHAAAAA!!!
YOU BETTER NOT LITTER OR I'LL GETCHAAAAAA!!!

OK, so Step 1) if I was out somewhere, casually strolling toward a trash can to properly deposit my empty snack wrapper, and I saw this nightmare waiting for me, I would...

Step 2) immediately litter.  All in my pants...

Step 3) throw whatever other actual litter I have all over the place as I run for my life all the way home...

and Step 4) construct myself a fort out of litter to live in forever, because I would never leave it, in hopes that I would never have to see this evil psycho litter-clown ever again.

You know, come to think of it, maybe that's not such a bad anti-litter mascot after all.  It would scare everyone into never littering again!  ;)

The Nothingpocalypse

Well, I woke up this morning expecting to see an icy winter wonderland outside, but instead got this:
You can see the tiny little bit of ice on that closest step.

And while I was outside taking this picture, I noticed that cars were traveling on the highway like normal.

I thought it was pretty weird that everything wasn't completely iced over, because it rained for hours and hours, and the temperature was below freezing.  Oh, well.  Apparently there is some black ice on the roads, though, from what the news says.  Jamie went on in to work as usual.  I told him he BETTER NOT crash his truck.  He has a track record of somehow mysteriously wrecking his vehicle (not bad enough to get hurt, but just bad enough for the vehicle to be totaled), and then getting all excited when he gets to get a new vehicle.  >:{

Anyway, I checked the weather forecast, and now it's calling for 1 - 3 inches of snow tomorrow.  So now I wonder if school is gonna be closed AGAIN.  Sheesh.

All I know is that I CAN'T stay glued to the couch again today.  I've GOTTA putter around and do SOMETHING (besides hate Winter and wish Spring would hurry up)...!

February 16, 2015

Aww Heck! >:{

I'm officially sick of Winter now.  Well, I always hate it anyway, but I'm REALLY hating it right now.

I didn't know that the gas logs got THAT HOT.  So I burned my hand on it a while ago while I was fumbling around to plug in my laptop.

And then Lucky puked on the floor.

The other day in my yard, I noticed that the crocuses were blooming, and the daffodils are tantalizingly coming up.

And now, Lucky's about to puke AGAIN.  And we can't get her to budge off the couch to go outside and puke!  DAMMIT.

I'm bored to death, and feel like my butt has been super-glued to the couch, cuz that's pretty much where I've been all day long.

I have a feeling that Lucky will be puking some more before the night is over.  Right now, she's laying on the couch burping.  This is not gonna be fun.

In Weather news, it's still 33 degrees, and I can still hear it raining outside.  Watch it somehow manage to be perfectly fine in the morning.  I almost think I might rather be at work than at home tomorrow, cuz if Jamie's work is closed because of the ice, we'll all be cooped up in the house together, bored and climbing the walls, between the day's highlights of Maddie's farting and Lucky's puking.

HURRY THE HELL UP, SPRINGTIME!!!  >:{

It's Raining Harder Than I Thought

I finally broke down and went outside to see the weather up close and personal.  The temperature is still 33 degrees.  It's raining quite a bit harder than I thought it was.  It's kind of mysterious to me how it can be 33 degrees and raining, instead of snowing.

The dogs are outside right now (but they're pawing at the door to be let back in), and Sassy is batting a piece of dog food around the living room (when she's not attempting to sit in the small box that the puzzle that Jamie and Lilly are working on right now came in).

I think the temperature is supposed to drop to 23 degrees overnight, and if it does, I bet we'll wake up to Icepocalypse in the morning.

I wish the school would just go ahead and do their automatic phone calls to everybody saying NO SCHOOL TOMORROW so I can enjoy staying up late tonight and sleeping late in the morning

*record scratch*

NEWS FLASH...SCHOOL IS CLOSED!!!  THE CALL JUST CAME IN...

HOORAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :D

OK, I got rid of Maddie

Well, the main reason I got Maddie up in my lap in the first place was because I was cold, and secretly just wanted to absorb her body heat.  I was too cheap to turn up the thermostat.  But it worked!  A 70-pound, 100-degree dog in your lap for a couple of hours works like a charm!

Now she's running around the living room trying to snuffle into everyone else's sloppy joes.  Silly doggy!

Anyway, it began raining harder (hard enough for me to be able to hear it happening outside while being trapped on the couch under Maddie).  The temperature is still 33, though.

So at this point, I don't know if school will be open tomorrow or not, but I have a feeling it won't be.

We shall see......

Update...Now I'm Trapped!

I'm having to make this post from my phone cuz right now I'm sittin' on the couch trapped underneath Maddie!
Maddie is sound asleep and lets HORRIBLE farts from time to time!

Now I'm tryin' to eat a sloppy joe but Maddie sprang awake & she's goin' NUTS tryin to sniff & taste it!

This ain't workin'!

AAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

Somebody Get A Towel

I was sitting on the floor in front of the gas logs a while ago enjoying the warmth, reading a little book, with Maddie laying halfway in my lap.  Since the dogs usually stay outside, it's a huge treat to them to get to come in and lay on us and get good petting in a comfy environment.

Anyway, Jamie texted me from work to ask what temperature it was, and to say that it had started raining at his workplace.  I got up to look at the thermometer, texted Jamie back that it was 36 degrees, and looked outside.  I noticed that it had actually started barely sprinkling here at the house too, and let him know that as well.  It's raining so lightly that you can't even tell it's raining until you look at something like the porch steps outside and see little droplets of water.  So much for a wintry mix.

So I settled back down in front of the gas logs and continued reading my book and petting Maddie.  Maddie was so relaxed that I think she actually went to sleep with her head in my lap as I petted her.

After a little while, I happened to look up and something caught my eye.  Maddie had PEE'D IN THE FLOOR while she was laying with her head in my lap!!!  I guess my petting was just too relaxing!

So I hopped up, and made Maddie go outside.  Lilly grabbed 2 paper towels (which would help as much as it would be to absorb 1 drop of water out of the entire ocean), but hey, Lilly surprisingly offered to help, so I didn't shoo her away.  And I grabbed a cruddy old towel that we keep around for just such an emergency, and a bottle of spray cleaner, and we swabbed up the pee mess.

I'm not even gonna ask What Else Could Go Wrong...!

Oops...the temperature has dropped to 33 degrees now...could Icepocalypse become a reality...?

We shall see...updates will be forthcoming......!

OWWWWWWW

Since it's been so cold lately, we've felt sorry for the dogs, and let them stay in the house at night, and let them in and out as they please when we're home during the day.  That means in addition to we 3 humans, we also have 2 big dogs, 2 cats, and a bunny all under one small roof.  To complicate matters, the cats can't be in the same room together because they would fight to the death.  The bunny can't be in the same room as the dogs because the dogs would scare the bunny to death.  And sometimes the dogs want to fight each other to the death.  So in my bedroom behind the closed door is one cat (Domino), in Lilly's bedroom is the other cat (Sassy) and the bunny, and past the baby gate in the living room are the 2 dogs (Maddie and Lucky).  Maddie doesn't seem to care too much about the cats, but the cats are petrified of dogs.  Lucky, on the other hand, is completely fascinated by basically all other animals (especially ones smaller ones than her, which she sees as playthings-to-the-death).  We spend a lot of time making sure no deaths happen in our household.  :/

Well, a few minutes ago, Sassy walked into the hallway, and even though the baby gate was up (and Lucky was directly on the other side of it), she really wanted to go into the living room, dog or no dog.  Sassy attempted to scale the baby gate, but decided against it at the last moment.  Stupid me tried talking Sassy into letting me assist her into the living room.  I told Sassy it would be all right, and that I would help her, as I petted her and picked her up.

1 half-step over the baby gate later, "WWRRREEEOOOWWW HISSSSSSSSSSSS SCRATCHHHHHHH"
That's my side.  In the very tender part midway between the boob and hip.  OWWWWWWWW.

I don't get tattoos, I get cattoos.

And when am I ever gonna learn?  NEVER.  I'm never gonna learn!  :P

P.S.  Still no rain/snow/anything yet...!

'Winter Storm' Anticipation

Well, we're allegedly supposed to get some kind of freezing rain/snow/ice/winter disaster today.  Yesterday we had to go to the grocery store, and every single bit of the bread was completely wiped out.  It's pretty silly if you think about it why everyone buys up all the milk and bread whenever 'bad weather' is expected.  I mean, really, who eats milk and bread whenever it snows?  It sounds like a bad prison sentence.  "Oh, Lord, it snowed an inch.  I'm so glad I purchased those 10 loaves of WonderBread and 8 gallons of milk, because it's the only sustenance that just might give us enough energy in order to possibly survive this disastrous 2-day blizzard!
I guess in the Milk & Bread Buyers' defense, it doesn't really help that all the newscasts hype it up like WARNING WARNING STORM STORM ICE ICE WARNING WARNING DEATH DEATH FREEZING TORMENT STORM WARNING ICE ICE DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

So this alleged Winter Storm is due to begin around noon today with Freezing Rain.  We shall see.

I GUARANTEE that school will be closed tomorrow.  And possibly all the rest of the week.

I can kind of understand why we in the South get made fun of for acting so silly and helpless for being brought to our knees if it snows an inch (and if it snows anything more than an inch, then we act like it's the apocolypse).  Last night, Jamie's boss texted him to let him know that their workplace wouldn't be open today, in anticipation of the imminent winter storm...even though it was perfectly clear at the time, and wasn't supposed to start snowing or whatever until early afternoon the following day!  That's pretty ridiculous.  There are a few workers at Jamie's workplace today, so thankfully Jamie decided to go on in to work as usual.  It's kind of silly not to, especially when nothing is happening yet weather-wise, and isn't supposed to for many more hours.

Here's the winter storm as of right now, that I braved the elements to snap a picture of standing on the porch wearing only a hoodie, t-shirt, bloomers, and socks:
*crickets chirping*

Updates on this alleged Winter Storm will be forthcoming...

Good Morning (?)

I was laying in bed after just waking up a while ago, when Lilly came busting in my room and hopped in the bed with me, giving me a big hug.  She sniffed and said "Mmmmm...you smell good"!  I said "What do I smell like"?  Lilly sniffed and said "You smell like GOOD MORNING"!  Puzzled and amused, I asked Lilly "Well, what does 'Good Morning' smell like"?  And she said "Oh, I don't know...kinda like good rubber"!  Then she jumped up and trotted off.

I don't know if that's a compliment or not!  LOL!  :|
